When I turned 49, I felt dissatisfied with my daily work as the Executive Artistic Director for Chopsticks Alley Art, a non-profit serving the artist community in San Jose. The organization is growing and gaining momentum as a leading arts organization specializing in highlighting the arts and cultures of the Asian community. I have created a fantastic work environment for my staff, yet I felt stagnant. I always had plan B and plan C in place, and my creativity was endless, yet between 49 and 51, I couldn’t get my stride back. I blamed part of it on the outcome of the post-Covid environment, on growing older, and even on self-doubt as if maybe I used up all the creativity that I was allotted and that perhaps it’s time to think about stepping back from it all and “retire.”
During these years, I continued meditation, learned about Crystals and their scientific properties and healing energies, learned to make incense, sought spiritual guidance, and read astrology charts. I discovered Human Design years ago, but it didn’t resonate with me until I heard about it again in November of 2022. And suddenly, it all made sense right there in my chart! I won’t go into too many details about my Human Design chart, but it helped shape my general mindset and approach to life. My chart indicated that things will align for me when I turn 50.
Have you heard of the seven-year cycle? Seven is a number that recurs in nature, culture, religion, and art. It all makes sense why I started to get the itch to change or do something else at 49. The years leading up to now were active spiritual learning years. At the end of June 2024, all the wheels clicked in place. I suddenly know what I’m supposed to do next. Hence, the founding of Crystalcense!
Crystalcense works with women owned businesses, Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) artisans and artists to bring you spiritual gifts of crystals and incense to improve your mindset, restore your inner strength, and ease self-doubt.
I don’t claim to be an expert in crystals, incense, or a spiritual guide, but what I will bring into the world will come from my heart-centered place of health, empathy, and joy. I wish to help reduce self-doubt and challenges in women’s lives, support artists so they remember they were given innate gifts from the Divine, and elevate both to bring beauty and unity into this world. Art tells stories, changes minds, unites communities, inspires us, and can be life-changing. I have witnessed how art heals throughout my years as an arts administrator. Like an artist’s paint and brush, crystals and incense are mediums that can help us recall our true spirit, revive our subconscious, and reconnect to our inner being. Best of all, they can help us connect to the Divine.
